Save McCulloch MCS2001 14-Amp Electric Chipper/Shredder

I had read the reviews here before purchasing the product so the poor and confusing assembly instructions were not a surprise. As an individual who only looks at instructions as a last resort, I was able to assemble the unit with only a few glances at the diagrams. In the event of doubts, the written text proved to be of little help.

After completing the assembly I turned on the power. It made a bit of noise and tripped out. I reset the thermal switch and tried a couple more times with the same result. I then removed the Top Cover Assembly and by hand-cranking the blades found that the two pieces of curved metal flanges at the bottom of the cutter base (for ejecting the shredded material) were hitting the head of the hex screws that attached the flat plate to the top of the motor housing.

Seeing that the hex screws were not flush with the base as they should be, I removed them, took off the star washers that had been bent concave (and should not have been there in my opinion) and reinstalled the screws. With the screws now deeper into their groove (although not quite flush with the plate) this increased the clearance somewhat but they were still binding, so I filed down those two flanges to get another one-sixteenth of an inch of clearance. There was still a very small amount of binding so I made up a washer using a thin piece of kevlar material and then I had suitable clearance.

I then reassembled everything and the results were the same as before.

I am now suspecting the start capacitor and wondering why they would pack the unit up at the factory without once testing to see that the motor worked.

Once again I removed the Top Cover Assembly, removed the cutter base, removed the flat plate attached to the top of the motor assembly, and what should my eyes behold?

The axle with the armature is just dangling into the motor housing!

There are supposed to be three machine screws that fasten the top of the motor housing to the main body. ALL THREE OF THE SCREWS were left out at the factory.

I found three stainless steel screws of the correct size in my garage and screwed the top housing of the motor into place. After reconnecting the top of the motor housing back to the bottom side of the flat plate, the axle now protruded up enough that there was lots of clearance between the flanges on the cutter base and the flat plate, so there was really no need to remove the star washers, file the flanges, or make a washer of any kind.

After putting the Top Cover Assembly back in place the motor turned up to speed just as it should and I cut one small twig with it.

I don't know how well it is going to work for its intended purpose, but I will rethink Mccullough for any future products if my experience is indicative of the quality control practices of their Chinese factory.Get more detail about McCulloch MCS2001 14-Amp Electric Chipper/Shredder.

Lowest Price Duracell 813-0281-07 100 Watt Pocket Power Inverter

The unit is well made and the long cord adds to its flexibility. The cord is actually 35" long.
It powered my Dell Studio Laptop with Earthmate GPS unit flawlessly on a recent 1000 mile trip. It didn't get overly warm and it is quiet.
The laptop is rated at 75 watts.
On/off button means you don't have to unplug when you stop.
With this unit you only need an AC charger for your cell phone.

I am very happy with this unit.Get more detail about Duracell 813-0281-07 100 Watt Pocket Power Inverter.

Poulan ES350 16-Inch 3.5 HP Electric Chain Saw Decide Now

Being born and raised in Florida I've been through a dozen or so Hurricanes. Since there is always power failures who in their right mind would own an electric chain saw? Well me for one LOL. Three things are a must if using electric tools.
1. A heavy duty extension cord
2. A gas generator
3. A Heavy duty 12 volt power converter.

I use the power converter via the charge system on the F 150 pick up. This is used in remote locations when the chain saw is needed. The generator is used when main power is down in the house. The generator is only used during storm conditions, which is wired into the house wiring.

As for the saw its a great unit. I've been through electric chain saws in the last twenty years. Most.... for the most part have served well.
The main thing to remember with any saw is the sharpness of the blade. I for one always resharpen the blade and clean the unit after each use. Drain the oil after each use, wipe off any sap with wd-40, and sharpen the blade. You'll get a decade or so out of an electric saw that is used on a regular basis.

The Poulan Electric 16" 3.5hp Chainsaw is a well made unit and I'm totally satisfied with its performance! Don't forget eye protection with this and any other power tool.Get more detail about Poulan ES350 16-Inch 3.5 HP Electric Chain Saw.

Poulan Pro PP125 17-Inch 25cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer With Split Shaft Immediately

The Good: Great concept to have interchangabe attachments. It cost way less (initially) to get this unit plus a few attachments versus buying everything separate. The pull start was relatively easy and never took more than a few pulls.

The Bad: I purchased this unit and used it about once or twice a week during the summer to blow off the drive after mowing and to periodically edge, and use the line trimmer around the edge of the property. In the fall, I used the unit twice to blow leaves. In all, I would have to estimate I had only about 20 to 30 hours of engine run time on the unit. During the second blowing of the leaves, after about 3 minutes of use, the unit started to bog down and then quickly stopped. I attempted to restart, but the motor had completely seized. I let the unit cool for a day and tried again to no avail. I contacted Poulan who directed me to a local servicer (who was very easy to work with).

He said he had to contact Poulan to see if they wanted to replace the unit or have him repair the existing one (since it was well within the 2 year warranty). Poulan asked him to disassemble my engine to determine if there was signs of excessive heat, indicating that I had used an improper fuel/oil mixture (which I hadn't and was irritated that they wanted to pay their servicer to prove me wrong versus just honoring the warranty to begin with). They finally agreed to the unit. The servicer then started to rebuild the unit and found additional parts "melted" in the clutch area that he hadn't found during the motor tear down. He again contacted Poulan who finally issued a replacement unit but would not offer a full 2 years on the warranty for the new model (only what was left on my original warranty).

The servicer also explained that gas powered trimmers like these are rated for a certain # of hours of runtime before they begin to fail. This particular model was only rated at 50 hours. So for my usage, it is likely to "expire" after 2 years - right on time with the warranty to expire. The servicer indicated other brands like Echo have a 300 hour engine life. Of course they come with a larger price tag.

Bottom line: Be wary of the warranty and expected usage. If you aren't going to use it that often, or extended periods of time, this unit will probably do you fine. I'm still debating what I'm going to do when the replacement finally dies and is out of warranty. The options are to buy a new Poulan interchangable trimmer so I can continue to re-use my existing attachments every 2 years ($120 roughly), or to invest in something like Echo equipment, which are more expensive and I'd have to buy 3 units to replace this one. Tough call.

As a side note, from what I understand, several manufacturers use the same engine. I can't verify, but my old Craftsman convertible trimmer (which used the same attachments) had an identical engine (I think) and I had similar issues with it after a couple years.Get more detail about Poulan Pro PP125 17-Inch 25cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer With Split Shaft.

Earthwise CCS30008 18 Volt 8-Inch Cordless Chain Saw Top Quality

This little saw replaced a burned-out Black & Decker. Which I had thought had been useful. However, I am pleasantly surprised about the performance of this light-weight saw. Not only does the charge hold a lot longer than the B&D, the automatic oiler works better, the chain stays tight.
I have been using it almost daily since purchased and it has not let me down. Each day it performs like it did the first day. I can highly recommend it.

Order ETQ TG1200 1,200 Watt 2 HP 2-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator (Non-CARB Compliant)

Reasonably quick shipping from Amazon. Free shipping is always good. No damage during shipping. I bought this primarly for camping and as others have stated it runs very quiet. Starts easy and for me the feature I like most is it uses 50/1 mixture, same as my boat motor. Others use 30/1 which meant more mixing! Also the light weight is handy. With reasonable care this should last many years. Key word is portable. Buy Poulan Pro PP4218AVX 18-Inch 42cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Anti-Vibration Chain Saw With Case

I did quite a bit of cutting last fall, and it worked well. The tensioning lock system is pathetic, but Poulan will provide you with the original double nut system free of charge, which I highly recommend.

These are equipped with the current anti-pollution mixture adjustment screws, which take a special tool not authorized for the public. You can, however obtain them on e-bay; and unless you're up for periodically toting the saw to a repair shop, and shelling out $20 or more for a minor adjustment, I suggest getting one.Get more detail about Poulan Pro PP4218AVX 18-Inch 42cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Anti-Vibration Chain Saw With Case.

Cheap Earthwise PS40008 8-Inch 6 Amp Electric Telescopic Pole Saw With 3-Position Head And 10-Foot Reach

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1K6PRBRFJJPVO Easy and Painless is how I want to describe this little workhorse. For such a tiny electric pole saw, it delivered pretty good. Look at the video to get an idea. And for a $70 electric pole saw, you'd think that it wouldn't have enough power, but you'd be surprised. I used this during the "Winter Wallop" in Oklahoma a few weeks ago. I was steadily cutting away and I had to stop only because I had to answer the telephone. No stalling and I switched easily from normal extension to it's maximum extension as you can see on the video. My little Chewing Train was chugging along. It ain't no Black and Decker or Poulan or McCoullah, or DeWalt or any other brand I"ve ever heard of, but it worked splendidly with absolutely no problem.

Summary of this unknown Electric Pole Saw:

Price: Excellent
Handling: Great
Reach: Excellent--You can extend it by simply using a ladder, but be careful of weight distribution
Oil Usage: Minimal
Chain Lubrication: Excellent--auto lubricates very well
Weight: Pretty good for an average man.
Clean UP: Very eary
Assembly: Very easy
Noise Level: Very good, almost like a small electric mower. 3x less than a Gas Chain Saw
Storage: Very Good, even had it stood up for storage and no problem. Not even an oil drop.
Chain Replacement: Very Easy
Chain availability: Any Lowe's, Home Depot or Ebay you can get it.
Kick Back: None. I used it for about 45min straight. Checked it for 5 mins for chain tightness, used it again for another
30 minutes and it cut with no problem. It did bind twice, but I was trying to cut a straight 7" diameter log
If you cut a wider one... Use the lumberjack technique and cut from three sides. I even let a friend use it
and he thought it performed very well.
Overall: Great price, great reachability, easy assembly, easy to clean up, minimal noise, and handles well.

Save Earthwise CS30016 16-Inch 12 Amp Electric Chain Saw

The recent super snow storm left broken trees all over my one acre property. I also had most of a medium sized juniper down over the front sidewalk. After two days of cutting and trimming I can say this is a great unit. It made short work of logs 10" - 12" across, and the smaller stuff took seconds to cut into manageable sizes. I even did some work with it on a ladder (very carefully), and I was able to handle it easily. The bigger job was hauling the debris away, not the cutting. Another plus is that the chain tensioner is quick and easy to set. This saves time and keeps you working.

I can reach just about everywhere on the property with a long extension cord or two, so I opted for the electric unit. It's really nice not having to mix gas and oil. Just plug and go. Previous gas units I've used usually involved some sort of mechanical attention every time I used them. Just keep an eye on the cord, so you don't cut through it. I managed to do that with a hedge trimmer once.

The safety tip guard helps keep the chain off the ground when not in use. I also like that it comes with a molded cover for the chain blade when storing or carrying the the unit. One con: Like many chainsaws, gas and electric, the self oiler quickly became clogged with wood chips. Clearing it takes a few minutes. I find it easier to carry some chain lube in a small bottle and dab some on periodically and it works great with no smoking. I had the same problem with my last saw, but this solution ensures good lubrication. Chain lube is cheap, about $10 - $11 a gallon, and your chain will thank you. Unless you're doing professional work with big trees, this unit will do nicely. Thanks also to Amazon for the quick delivery.Get more detail about Earthwise CS30016 16-Inch 12 Amp Electric Chain Saw.

Lowest Price FAIP Powerwasher PWS1800-U 1,800 PSI 1.6 GPM Electric Pressure Washer

This is one great product! After reading other reviews, I must admit I was a little leery about buying this and any power washer. But, I'm glad I decided to get it. It arrived nicely packed. The book was easily read. We connected the unit and proceeded to clean the walkway, sidewalk, patios and driveway. The unit is quiet, and the handle easy to hold. It's not that heavy, easily moved to other spots as you are working. The following day, we took it to our other house and proceeded to power wash patios, sidewalks, etc. with no problem whatsoever. I have recommended this product to friends and can't wait to use it again. Get more detail about FAIP Powerwasher PWS1800-U 1,800 PSI 1.6 GPM Electric Pressure Washer.

Reliance Controls Transfer Switch Kit - 6 Circuit, Model# 31406CRK Right now

I purchased this transfer switch in the Fall from Home Depot (it would have been cheaper getting it through Amazon) along with an Elite Series 6200 generator from Sears. Even though we lost power several times this winter, I was putting off the installation because it involved running 100 feet of wire. Well, we lost power again and that prompted me to finally give it a whirl.

The first thing to note is the great installation videos, available on the DVD that comes with the kit and also online. I actually watched the videos online before I made the purchase, which is what made me feel comfortable about doing this on my own in the first place. I watched the videos several times and made notes for the section of the procedure where I wouldn't have power. These were:

(1) Label switches A, B, C&D, E, F
(2) Turn off main and remove cover.
(3) Tap out knockout and pull wires though (you also need to tighten the clamp ring, not mentioned in the video).
(4) Mount transfer switch (I had prepared the area ahead of time).
(5) Connect white wire to open position in neutral bar (explained in the video).
(6) Connect green wire to grounding (neutral) bar (all this is explained in the video).
(7) For wire A, turn off breaker and remove existing wire, cut red wire A, strip, and connect to breaker. Take black wire A, cut and strip, and attach to wire taken out of circuit with yellow wire nut.
(8) Repeat for the rest of the wires.
(9) Tuck wires in a bit and replace.

This procedure went very smoothly.

Similarly, installing the remote port and wiring it and the transfer switch was easy to do following the instructions. I did have to run out and get wire conduit clamps, but in the end I was feeling quite confident, fired up the generator, and started testing the circuits.

Circuits C&D (my well) and F (my boiler) received power. Unfortunately, circuits A (my fridge) and B and E (misc) were not working. I spent a while trying to troubleshoot this, checking to see if the generator was overloaded, etc., and realized that these circuits were failing even when they were the only ones the generator was powering. The amp meters read zero. It seemed to me that my wiring in the main panel must be OK because the appliances work in LINE mode, and turn off in the OFF setting. Finally, I called customer support.

I can't say enough about the customer support. The technician was patient and knowledgeable, and together we analyzed the problem. Because my well was working on circuits C&D, he said that the generator was probably not the problem, since it was sending power on both "legs" (another thing explained in the video). He had me check the switches by watching the fridge after switching to GEN, and then pushing on the switch (upward, checking for a loose connection). Still, no power. He suggested that it might be the circuit breakers, which could be accessed by removing the black ring and screw, and then two additional screws in the transfer panel at which point the upper assembly can tip forward and out. I told him I would try swapping the good F breaker with the failing A breaker and call him back with the results.

Well, when I had the switch apart and was swapping those circuit breakers (wiggling them free from their connectors) I noticed that one of the connectors on the A switch seemed loose, so I tightened it. Also, one of the two connectors on the B breaker was off, although that might have been caused by my efforts in swapping the two breakers.

Anyway, I button the thing back up and not only does the A circuit work, but all the other circuits as well.

I'm sure that my experience was unusual, but it's good to know that where I had problems they were readily resolved through good technical support. I will definitely recommend this product to my friends, and maybe for a beer I'll even help them install it.Get more detail about Reliance Controls Transfer Switch Kit - 6 Circuit, Model# 31406CRK.

Factory Reconditioned Karcher G 3050 OH 3,000 PSI 2.5 GPM 187cc Honda GC190 Gas Powered Pressure Washer Order Now

I was leery of purchasing a reconditioned or remanufactured pressure washer, but the savings were so good compared to new, that I decided to give it a try. The machine arrived about a week after ordering via free super saver shipping. The packaging is clearly intended for palletized shipments to retail stores, not UPS type of delivery. Since this is a reconditioned machine, I can't tell whether the very minor scuffs were from shipping or not. In any case they were very minor, and not of any consequence. I noticed immediately that one of the wheels was slightly bent. Assembly was quite simple, and the instructions clear. I put the oil in and put some gas in the tank. The machine started on the first or second pull. I tested it briefly to be sure that it was functional. The machine sat overnight. The next day, I discovered that fuel was leaking from the fuel line connection to the gas tank. The hose was not completely inserted onto the nipple on the tank. After correcting this, the fuel leak stopped. I used the machine to clean a saltillo tile walkway that was covered with slime and moss. The machine worked well.

As long as you are willing to accept some minor problems, I think this is a good value for the homeowner level of user. If you buy this machine, make sure the fuel hose is fully attached to the gas tank before you fill up. If you've used the more powerful machines in the past, don't expect to get the same power, but if you are cleaning walkways and patios you will have all the power you need.Get more detail about Factory Reconditioned Karcher G 3050 OH 3,000 PSI 2.5 GPM 187cc Honda GC190 Gas Powered Pressure Washer.

Cub Cadet CS 5220 Commercial Grade 52cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered 20-Inch Chain Saw (Non-CARB Compliant) Immediately

I took this ranch out to my ranch today and cut trees for about 5 hours with my sons. My other saw is a small Huskvarna 136 with a 16 inch bar. This thing is a monster in comparison and great for the bigger stuff. It cut thru a 24 inch oak tree and make chips fly like no other saw I have used. Something else that amazed me is that we went most of the afternoon on one tank of fuel running at very high throttle. This is very clearly a professional grade saw... much more solid than my little Husky or even the Husky 455 which I nearly bought instead. The anti vibration springs were a thing of beauty to watch and to use. It did a nice job of isolating the vibration from the user. So, with only one day of use its hard to give a definitive review. I have to say that the first impressions were very, very good. This saw is a steal at its current price on Amazon and I am very glad I bought it. One final note, the first saw I got arrived broken. UPS came and picked it up the next day and the new saw arrived the day after. Couldn't ask for better under the circumstance... Thanks Amazon!Get more detail about Cub Cadet CS 5220 Commercial Grade 52cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered 20-Inch Chain Saw (Non-CARB Compliant).

Xantrex Technologies 852-2071 Xpower AC/DC Powerpack Solar With 400 Watt Inverter, Two AC Outlets, USB Port, And Digital Display Top Quality

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2RLYNYJ4M8X25 This is a great little unit, I have used it a few times to test just how long it lasts and it never failed to impress. The only problem with this unit is that the digital display is highly inaccurate in displaying the batteries charge level when anything is plugged in and the ac output of devices under 50 watts. I have not experienced any error code problems. I've used this unit to power a small table fan, a laptop computer and some other small draw items. Here are my run times:

Small ac table fan = 3-4 hours on low setting, 3 max on low setting

12 volt dc fan = 5-7 hours on only high setting (0.8 amps 10 watts from walmart)

13.3" macbook = 2.5 hours with lots of processing and display on full brightness
4 hours max with low brightness and light web browsing only (full battery)

acer aspire one = 5-6 hours on low brightness and light browsing (battery charged prior)
netbook

Items that will not run long on this powerpack:

1. powerful entertainment or gaming laptops

2. desktop computers

3. big ac fans

4. high draw dc appliances such as a dc coffee maker, hair dryer and spotlight

5. items with heating elements in general EX: coffee maker, heating blanket, electric heater of any sort (expect 3 min or less run time, just don't even try to plug any of the mentioned items in AT ALL!)

6. big lcd tv's or any crt tv (yes even the 13" rated for this product)

Items that will be damaged by this device due to modified sine wave ac output:

1. rechargeable batteries (your laptop will not be damaged because it has a special transformer (I.E. the power brick)

2. nightlights of any sort

3. rechargeable electric shavers

4. any devices that specify they will only work with pure sine wave power (grid power = pure sine wave. keep in mind that 99.9% of all powerpacks use modified sine wave for ac power)

Bottom line: Don't treat it as if it is a generator or as if you still have power coming in off the grid in an emergency, be conservative and it will last the night. If you have never owned a power pack like this, keep in mind it's just a battery and the solar panel won't make it function like a generator. If you don't know solar, keep in mind this unit has the largest possible solar panel that will fit on the unit, that doesn't mean it will charge in a day like your solar accent lights outside. A full day of sunlight will give you 10-20 percent of overall charge (use this to charge your cellphone or run the efficient built in lights at night). You need to charge this unit every 1-3 months. Failure to do so will cause the internal sla agm battery to sulfate and refuse to charge(your warranty is voided with xantrex for neglect). Realistically don't plug devices in that use more than 70-80 watts if you want reasonable run time (this is true with most powerpacks, even the huge ones). Large items should not be used at all in an emergency power situation. If you want more power and longer run times, buy a 400 watt inverter for your car (please don't kill your car's battery, start it up) or buy a $100-$150 2 cycle generator, especially if you need power for medical devices. This unit should last you at least 5 years before the battery needs to be replaced (10 ah agm battery, nut and bolt terminals, tall style battery = $29 online) A lot of powerpacks use this battery. My campbell hausfeld power pack with this battery is 3 years old and counting with the same battery (runs great too, no loss of power) and my past devices using sla batteries lasted an average 7 years before needing replacement. Treat your battery right and it can last just as long. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll try to respond asap or whenever I can check my inbox.
